My first ever songwriting partner was my school friend, Anthony Hickey. When we moved into second year sixth at Newman College, Preston, in 1980, we began a prolific songwriting collaboration which lasted several years. After writing a couple of musicals together, we turned to more pop-based songs. From the beginning of our collaboration, our writing process involved us jamming - Anthony on acoustic guitar and I played piano.- with Anthony singing to formulate melodies and lyrics.

After Anthony's untimely death in 2020, I recorded a version of one of our first collaborations, an instrumental entitled 'Sol Oriens' (Sunrise) as a tribute to him, our friendship and our songwriting collaboration It appears here on my Bandcamp page.

Fast forward three years, and I met up with Anthony's brother, John, on the day of Anthony's anniversary. We went for breakfast and on our return to John's flat, John presented me with the acoustic guitar that Anthony used in all our writing sessions. I was really moved and suggested that I would record another tribute to Anthony using his guitar...and here it is!

This EP contains two of our earliest songs - another version of 'Sol Oriens', and one of our popular pieces, 'Highway'. Both are instrumental versions, with Anthony's guitar at their heart. John has been involved in helping with the mixes, and he suggested I should compose a new piece using the guitar, so I created and recorded 'Golden' - inspired by the golden years of friendship and music Anthony and I shared - in a couple of hours. I hope you like it.
